Screen grab from Google Goggle introductory video
The smartphone is definitely becoming a commodity we cannot do without, with just a few individuals (often the older generation), sticking to the motto ‘All I need is a basic phone to make calls’. Definitely there is lot more you can do with phones nowadays. You can listen to music, play games, read books, watch movies. But everybody knows that. The most diverse apps populate the world of today’s smartphones.
The latest trends see users interested in health apps: you can now check your hearing with Play it Down, plug Withing’s Blood Pressure Monitor into your iPhone to take your blood pressure or scan your moles with Skin Scan, to mention a few examples.
With cash slowly becoming a thing of the past, electronic payment devices have started paving the way for the future. An example is Square, which enables users to accept credit card payments by using a card-reading device attached to their smartphone.
Another interesting app is Google Goggles which enables users to search for information by taking a picture of a particular object, place or barcode with their phones.
I’m looking forward to the day smartphones will brew coffee… Or is that too much to hope for?
